| Scullcap Medicinal Herb Seed - Scutellaria lateriflora | | | | Description | Common Name: Scullcap, helmetflower, hoodwort.
Latin: Scutellaria lateriflora
This herb is a member of the mint family.
Medicinally: It has traditionally been used to treat anxiety. Current Chinese research indicated that when the roots are extracted fo S. baicalensis they are a very effective anti-viral agent against the flu. A constituent of S. baicalensis - baicalin has been shown to inhibit HIV-1. It also has strong anti-inflammatory properties, and may also inhibit tumor growth. This herb has anti-oxident properties that are superior to that of vitamin E. It has many other useful uses as well!
"Note that most if not all commercial skullcap is adulterated with Teucrium, which contains liver-toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Picking your own is the way to go, unless you have a provider you trust." This is why you should grow your own herbs!
