Scientific Name: Nigella sativa L.
This plant is also commonly called Black Cummin. It has been used to treat a wide variety of ailments. An Arab Proverb states that, 'in the black seed is the medicine for every disease except death." The seeds are commonly used as a spice in Middle East. If you think of the flavor of rye bread then you know cummin. The seeds have been reputed to have anti-histamine properties, and are used to treat a wide variety of respiratory ailments. The seeds are very rich in beta-sitosterol, which is considered to be a strong anti-cancer agent. This plant is also good for acne. Do not use during pregnancy.
